After the presentation was accepted the couple moved to LA. She continued to study at home while auditioning. She made her TV breakthrough when she won the part of Laurie Partridge in the VH1 Reality/Talent show In Search of the Partridge Family (2004) which led to a number of smaller TV parts in the subsequent years. In Phoenix, Arizona, she was a student at Xavier College Preparatory. While she's referred to as a redhead, her real hair shade is blonde. Judd Apatow suggested that she change her hair color to be more in line with Superbad (2007). The actress loved it so much, she decided to keep the color. When she was 15 she convinced her parents she could go to Hollywood. She made this happen by making a PowerPoint presentation called Project Hollywood. She started acting when she was 11 years old in Phoenix's Valley Youth Theatre. Here, she starred on over 16 stages as well as performed in the theatre's comedy improv group.
